The concept of 'branding' comes from the act of taking a sculding hot iron, and marking an animal or cattle [ouch!] with your family's mark – so competing cattlers and ranchers, as well as anyone else, knew who the animals belonged to. It was a way to provide security and notoriety to your business.
Fortunately, we've come a long way from that, but the concept remains the same: we use symbols, graphics, experiences, and even emotions to "brand" our businesses to communicate to the world around us who we are and what we represent.
